in Lucille Ball

Lucy loved giving her closest friends guest-starring roles on I Love Lucy. Barbara Pepper, who got her start in the business as a Goldwyn girl with Lucy, appeared in countless episodes. She usually played a matronly bystander.

She’s best known for a role she went on to play (years later) – Doris Ziffel, Arnold’s “mother”, on Green Acres.

The wife of one of Lucy’s directors once said, “When Lucy gives a down-and-out friend a job on I Love Lucy, she acts as if the friend is honoring her by taking the job.”
