
Irish McCalla was one of the earliest Super Models – She was to the 1950’s what Cindy Crawford was to the 1980’s. She became so popular that, in 1953, she was given the lead role in a television series: Sheena, Queen of the Jungle, a television series based upon a popular comic book heroine.
Even though the show was hugely popular, it mysteriously discontinued after only twenty-six episodes. It did, however, enjoy a great little run in syndication.
Sadly, the beautiful actress, was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 1969. McCalla fought back and regained her health. But in the early 1980s, she was inflicted with yet another brain tumor and passed away at the age of 72 in February 2002.
