Password with Allen Ludden

I’ve recently fallen in love with the Game Show Network. I’ve always been crazy about game shows and I have a huge fascination with “yesterday’s” Hollywood stars – so old game shows and I are a match made in television Heaven.

I love watching Password with its charming and funny host Allen Ludden – especially when Betty White is on the show. As you may know, they met and fell in love when she appeared on this show. They were happily married from 1963 to Allen Ludden’s death, from cancer, in 1981.

It’s also cool to see the old stars kicked back and just being themselves on Match Game and Pyramid as well. My daughters get a huge kick out of the hair and wardrobes. Most actresses had a Stepford Wives type ‘do going on… not so much as a single strand of hair out of place!

The Game Show Network is like a healthy snack for the mind. Check it out – but be warned, it’s addictive. Actually, considering the nonsense that’s on a lot of networks these days, that’s not such a bad thing.

I guess it wasn’t too big of a surprise that Job Switiching won, but I expected Lucy Does a TV Commercial to finish much higher. I wonder if some people didn’t realize the title of the Vitameatavegamin episode.

As I was watching each of the episodes, it struck me again just how brilliantly talented all of the people involved with I Love Lucy were. The entire cast was perfect – all four stars were magical. And the writers? Forget about it! They were waaaay ahead of their time.

Thanks, TV Land for the funnest New Year’s Eve ever! 2008 was a very eventful year (some good, some bad), and bringing Lucy into our living rooms all day was a perfect way to close it out.

The episodes are listed below – with the winner leading the way.

Job Switching
The Freezer
Ricky Sells the Car
Pioneer Women
Bon Voyage
Lucy Tells the Truth
Lucy and John Wayne
Building a Bar-B-Q
Lucy’s Italian Movie
Lucy Wants New Furniture

Lucy Does a TV Commercial

Unfortunately, I’ve noticed that TV Land doesn’t have I Love Lucy in their daytime’s lineup anymore.  That’s sad – I’d love for a network to show I Love Lucy and  Dick Van Dyke.  I guess we’d all better buy the dvd sets, eh?  I already have one season of I Love Lucy – I’d better get the rest!

Does the Dick Van Dyke show even have dvds?  I don’t recall ever seeing any.  If anyone ever finds either one of these beloved classics on a tv schedule, please let me know.

I hope your New Year’s is off to a great start and that it just gains momentum!

When Rick asks Lucy why her bank account is alwyas overdrawn in the episode “Job Switching,” Lucy has the perfect answer. One that, to me, seems perfectly reasonable.

Lucy: “You don’t give me enough money?”

Don’t forget the I Love Lucy Countdown Marathon on TV Land tomorrow (New Year’s Eve). As you can see, I’ve redone the site in Lucy’s honor for January. There are precious things in the world I’d rather do than sit down with an episode of I Love Lucy, so this is the perfect way to start a year off.

See the resolutions on the banner? Yeah, they’d be my top two resolutions. After all, if you’re going to make resolutions, you may as well make ones you’ll keep. Thanks to TV Land, I can watch I Love Lucy in the morning – and thanks to dvds, I can watch her in the evening. Start the day with a smile and finish it out the same way. Sweet.

I haven’t finished my list of resolutions yet, but I know “Eat Chocolate every day” and “Drink Coffee every day” will be right up there.

Something I’m going to do throughout January is have a Daily Lucy Post (in addition to regular posts). Some will be quotes from the series, some will be videos, and others will be trivia.

Have a great New Year’s Eve – make it I Love Lucy front to back!

Shop the Television City Classic TV Store from CBS

Duh on me. Duh all over me. I’d never even visited the CBS Online Store – because (obviously), with rare exceptions (House, Survivor, Amazing Race, Fringe) I much prefer yesterday’s television shows to todays. As you can imagine, TVLand is on my television more than any other network.

Anyway, I had no idea the CBS Store featured my kind of people: Lucy, Ricky, Andy, Barney, Matt Dillon, Dr. Quinn (I’d love to see TVLand bring this series on board), Laverne, Shirley, Fonzie, Richie, Granny, Jed, Ellie Mae, Jethro, the Brady’s, the Love Boat crew, Spock, Captain Kirk, The Little Rascals, etc!

They also have Beverly Hills 90210, Jericho, Taxi, and countless other shows.

Click the link above to take a look at the different tees and merchandise. There’s a really great tee with Andy, Opie, and Barney that reads, “Nobody Escapes From the Mayberry Jail.” We know better, of course, but shhhhh. No need breaking Barney’s spirit.

TV LandOkay, beautiful readers, let me give it to you straight.  There’s absolutely no reason to put your television on any channel but TV Land today.  Starting at 9:00 (be sure to check your own local listings), their going to obliterate the competition.  Being the I Love Lucy addict that I am, I’m getting weak in the knees.  Get this:  Lucy will take over the channel for 7 hours – putting me in 7th Heaven!

When the Lucy Laughs end, TV Land will reshow the AMAZING premiere of their new reality show, She’s Got the Look.  If you didn’t catch it the first time around, you’ll most definitely want to see it this time.  It’s so well done, with a lot of style.

After episode 1 of “She’s Got the Look,” you’re in for more laughs with two back to back Beverly Hillbillies followed by some of the funniest Andy Griffith’s ever.

At 6:00, they’ll air “Hot Rod Ottis,” the one where Otis buys a car and puts the fear of God into Andy and Barney – who then put the same fear back into Otis!  The next Andy Griffith is just as hilarious – the title is “The Song Festers” – it’s the one where Barney thinks he’s a killer singer but Gomer comes  along and outshines him.

At 7:00, Aunt Bee buys too much beef for the ailing freezer to handle, leading to headaches for Andy and laughs for the rest of us.  “Aunt Bee, call the man!“  At 7:30 is another of my favorites – “Divorce, Mountain Style!”  Any episodes featuring both Barney and the Darlings is one I don’t even blink during.  In this episode, Charlene wants to divorce Dud Wash and marry Andy.  Fortunately, Andy has Barney to help.  Except for one thing – he isn’t any!

After Andy and Barney finish up, there’s an episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition followed by… wait for it, wait for it… Episode 2 of She’s Got the Look.  According to the promo, it looks like someone has a big meltdown.   TV Land caps it off (post-meltdown!) with about 4 episodes of MASH.

I’ve already got TV Land on and going here in my home office.  Lucy and Ethel are trying to find a way to get in on the trip to Europe.  Ehtel cracked me up – when it looks like she’ll be the only one who doesn’t get to go, she was extremely down trodden and says, “I don’t want to see Europe anyway.  It’s so old.”

This is going to be a great day!

If these don’t make you smile, your facial muscles may have forgotten how.  Remedy? Turn on TV Land and catch up on some laughs!

When I post about I Love Lucy products, I always say things like, “I want this…” or “I’d really like to have this..” – but this time I’m going to go away from the norm a little bit.

I must have this throw. I must, at some point in the near future, be able to curl up on the couch underneath the I Love Lucy Licensed Collectible Throw, sipping hot chocolate with marshmallows while watching my I Love Lucy DVDs.

Must.

If you have any I Love Lucy Fanatics on your Christmas list, this would be the perfect gift. The best part is, they’ll think of you everytime they snuggle up with it. You can’t beat that!

Click the link to take a closer look. While on the web site, also check out the Collectible Salt & Pepper Shaker, there’s a set that matches the throw perfectly!

I Love Lucy Waste Can

Okay, you all ready know how obsessed I am with I Love Lucy (and with all things that have anything to do with Lucille Ball, for that matter). So, imagine how I’m flipping out for the goodies you see in this post. These little stick people are the cutest things I’ve seen since I saw my cat jump at the sight of his shadow earlier. There’s a good reason he’s named Svenn rather than Killer or Conan.

The I Love Lucy Waste Can “Stick Figures” Style (above) is made of tin and measures about 10 inches tall x 8.5 inches in diameter at the mouth. Too amazingly cute!

Then, there’s the I Love Lucy I’m Home Sign (below) – another Must Have.

But, husband (who I’m sure is sitting with credit card in hand as he hums The Christmas Song) – take note. I want the I Love Lucy Doll Stick Figure Poseable Lucy below first of all. I’ll positively have a blue, blue Christmas without her. Is she cute or what?!?!?

I Love Lucy Doll Stick Figure Poseable Lucy

You’ll find many, many, many more I Love Lucy goodies featuring the adorable stick people by clicking any of the links in the post. I’d post more pictures and links, but I’ve got to go write Santa. I’ve got to let him know how good I’ve been…after I polish my halo, that is. Chores come first.
