Three of the greatest stars of all time shared the screen in The Philadelphia Story (1940): Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn, and James Stewart.

Beautiful Katharine Hepburn (in one of my favorite roles she ever played) stars as the spoiled and snobby socialite Tracy Lord in this fun screen adaptation of The Philadelphia Story.  Grant, Hepburn, and Stewart team up for one of cinema’s first ever rom coms… before they even knew what rom coms were!

Movie Synopsis from Amazon: Applying her impossibly high ideals to everyone but herself, Tracy(Katharine Hepburn) is about to marry a stuffy executive when her congenial ex-husband (Cary Grant), arrives to protect his former father-in-law from a potentially scandalous tabloid exposé. In an Oscar-winning role, James Stewart is the scandal reporter who falls for Tracy as her wedding day arrives, throwing her into a dizzying state of premarital jitters. Who will join Tracy at the altar? Snappy dialogue flows like sparkling wine under the sophisticated direction of George Cukor in this film that turned the tide of Hepburn’s career from “box-office poison” to glamorous Hollywood star.  -Jeff Shannon

To Catch a Thief is one of Alfred Hitchcock’s most popular movies. How could it miss? Cary Grant, Grace Kelly, AND a great story? It was destined for mad success right out of the gate.

Cary Grant plays John Robie, a reformed jewel thief who’s suspected of returning to his former occupation.  He has to draw out the real thief in order to prove his innocence.  One of the copy cat burglar’s prime targets is  Jessie Stevens, in Europe to help daughter Frances (beautifully portrayed by Grace Kelly) find a suitable husband.

The chemistry between the stars is palpable! If you haven’t added this classic movie to your collection, you’ll probably want to do so. You can find the To Catch a Thief (Special Collector’s Edition) on Amazon for less than $12.

The Cary Grant and Grace Kelly mural above is striking! I love the fact that, due to the time, he couldn’t really put much into the kiss. These two were two of the stars who made the Golden Age of Hollywood so GOLDEN. If you haven’t watched a Cary Grant or Grace Kelly movie in a while, your due to treat yourself to some real movie magic. The movie poster depicted in the mural above, of course, is from their wonderful To Catch a Thief. I don’t know about you, but I’m dying to see this movie again. It’s been far too long. Thanks to Amazon, great classics like this one are just a click away.

To Catch a Thief was one of Alfred Hitchcock’s most popular films, for a very good reason. Well, make that two: Cary Grant and Grace Kelly. Add in the French Riviera, champagne, intrigue, suspense, burglary….. No wonder most people list this amongst their favorite Cary Grant AND Grace Kelly movies. Grant plays a retired thief who becomes a suspect when valuable things begin disappearing along the Cote d’Azur. The diamonds strung around Grace Kelly’s beautiful neck would appear to be his next target. This is a great, fun, and visually stunning movie.

Katharine Hepburn Dvd Collection

Katharine Hepburn fans, I know you’ll want to own the Katharine Hepburn Dvd Collection. The movies you’ll cherish in this collection (Morning Glory / Undercurrent / Sylvia Scarlett / Without Love / Dragon Seed / The Corn Is Green) cover the amazing Katharine Hepburn’s career – from early on to later.

Co-Stars include Cary Grant, Douglas Fairbanks Jr., Adolphe Menjou, and Walter Huston. But, come on,when Lady Hepburn’s on the screen, who notices co-stars? I’ve always been mesmerized with the cool, captivating, effortless, and rapid-fire way she delivered her lines. Totally and completely mesmerized.

The video above is a fantastic “tribute” done by a Katharine Hepburn fan. There are beautiful pictures of Katharine Hepburn that even I’d never seen before – and I honestly thought I’d seen every picture ever taken during Hollywood’s Golden Age.

The music is spot on perfect as well.

Without a doubt, Maureen O’Hara’s one of the most beautiful actresses ever. Absolutely stunning. The hair, the voice, the figure, the face – a place for everything and everything in its place.

I’ve said it before, and I’m bound to say it again – I wish actresses today would try to capture the magic, mystery, class, and sophistication that actresses yesterday possessed. A few, in my opinion, do (Keira Knightley, Angelina Jolie, Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson, Hilary Swank, and Reese Witherspoon to name a few.) But for the most part, they’re way too blatant and brassy.

There’s just something different about Maureen O’Hara, Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, Ava Gardner, Grace Kelly, and Rita Hayworth. And that something different is very attractive.

To be sure, the same can be said about actors yesterday vs. actors today! There aren’t very many Clark Galbes, John Wyanes, Cary Grants, or Clint Eastwoods walking around today.

So many girl-y boys! If John Wayne walked through Hollywood today, he wouldn’t know whether to date or punch half the actors.

Eh, too much cranberry sauce – makes me mean.

Summertime, and that means it’s time for the clothes to come off! Unless you’re Cary Grant, apparently. I think the man must’ve slept in his suit. I guess there’s something to be said for leaving things to the imagination. Not much, but something.

More to come soon – along with some hot wallpapers! I’m working on a gorgeous Lana Turner one right now. What a face. She had the Keira Knightley thing going on long before Keira did.

Personally, I haven’t much use for Jane Fonda – but the posters pretty cool in spite of her.
