As the title suggests, Mondo James Dean: A Collection of Stories and Poems about James Dean is a collection of stories and poems about the fascinating actor who died way, way too young by living far, far too fast.
James Dean is one of those people who everyone has an opinion about. Everyone agrees that he was unbelievably talented, and even more interesting. I often wonder just what he would have gone on to do if he hadn’t gotten behind the wheel that day.
Not long ago, I was thinking about movies that came out after his death (1955). I wonder which roles would have been his had he lived.
Ironic, isn’t it – even if he had gone on to make 100 films, he wouldn’t be more famous than he is right now. But I so wish he were still with us and had, in fact, made countless films. I’d own every single one, and probably have them memorized by now.
Something else I was thinking about recently – I see the same genius that resided in James Dean in another great, colorful actor: Johnny Depp. There’s a reckless abandonment to his acting style that reminds me of James Dean’s.
How amazing would it have been if these two could have made a movie together?!?! I think they would have been pretty amused with one another. How could they not be?
