Beautiful Joanna Moore played nurse Peg (or Peggy) on The Andy Griffith Show. The southern accent that was so noticable in her role on Andy Griffith was the real thing. She was born Dorothy Cook on November 10, 1934 in Americus, Georgia – making her a true southern belle.

She was in the films Walk on the Wild Side (1962) and Son of Flubber (1963), but seems to be best remembered as Peggy.
On April 3, 1963, Joanna married actor Ryan O’Neal, but the rocky marriage ended in February of 1967. They had two children together: Tatum and Griffin O’Neal. Sadly, she lost her children in 1970 because she had a “severe drug and alcohol addiction.” (Both of her children would go on to battle similar problems as adults. )
Her family, consisting of mostly actors, referred to her as the best actor in the family. She was also well known for being a great cook.
She died of lung cancer on November 22, 1997.

She was always my favorite one to watch on the Andy Griffith show… she was so cute and fun!
I always thought Andy should have hooked up with Peggy….she was so hot, and that sexy southern accent made her seem both vulnerable and formidable at the same time. She had steamy eyes that seemed to have a distinct sparkle…
I guess she was probably a smoker if she died of lung cancer a decade ago…that’s a real shame…
She was so pretty in the Sixties…and what a town nurse she made in Mayberry….Yabba Dabba Dooo!
She was gorgeous, I totally agree! The chemistry between her and Andy was sizzling, I think there was some real life attraction going on!
Tom, there’s a lot of resemblance with Tatum, I agree.
As for Andy, he blew it!
