“He [Arthur Miller] wouldn’t have married me if I had been nothing but a dumb blonde.” - MM

On June 29, 1956, Marilyn wed playwright Arthur Miller.

While they were married, Arthur wrote the part of Roslyn Taber in 1961’s especially for Marilyn. The movie co-starred Clark Gable and Montgomery Clift.

Marilyn and Arthur divorced in January of 1961. The Misfits would be Marilyn Monroe and Clark Gable’s last completed film.

“Marilyn is a kind of ultimate. She is uniquely feminine. Everything she does is different, strange, and exciting, from the way she talks to the way she uses that magnificent torso. She makes a man proud to be a man.”
– Clark Gable

A year later, at the 1962 Golden Globes, Marilyn was named female World Film Favorite, illustrating her mass appeal. She hadn’t just cast her spell on America, she’d bewitched the entire world!
