“[Hollywood is] a place where they’ll pay you a thousand dollars for a kiss and fifty cents for your soul.” – MM

Marilyn’s first movie role was a bit part in the 1947 film, The Shocking Miss Pilgrim. Her first role of any significance was in John Huston’s thriller The Asphalt Jungle (1950).

Later in 1950, her role as Claudia Caswell in All About Eve (starring Bette Davis) earned her further praise. She worked steadily for years, but it was her performance in 1953’s Niagara, however, that launched her to stardom.

Niagara was followed by the very popular movie, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (co-starring Jane Russell) and How to Marry a Millionaire (co-starring Lauren Bacall and Betty Grable). In 1953, Photoplay magazine voted Marilyn the Best New Actress. Although she had become a phenomenon – no one realized the legend she would one day become.
