Marilyn Monroe-Related Items in a DiMaggio Auction

by Joi on May 17, 2006

The personal memorabilia collection of baseball legend and husband, Joe DiMaggio, goes up for auction this weekend. A couple of items are related to Marilyn Monroe, whom (of course) he was briefly married to.

One of the items is a love note she wrote to him in March 1954, shortly after their honeymoon: “I love you till my heart could burst,” it reads, “… I want someday for you to be proud of me as a person and as your wife and as the mother of the rest of your children. (two at least! I’ve decided)”

Another item is a journal he kept around 1955. Inside the journal are reminders he’d written to himself about how to treat Marilyn: “No Jealousy. … Don’t forget how lonesome and unhappy you are — especially without her.”

The entire collection can be viewed at http://www.huntauctions.com/
