If you don’t think the Love Guru Adult Costume
is horrifying, you haven’t seen the movie.

I think it’d make a perfect costume – just be safe and wear a bullett proof vest, okay? A few other people besides me DID see the movie, and they might want a little revenge. Or at least their money back.

Okay, I admit it.  One of my daughters and I went to see The Love Guru.  Why?  The same reason you pick a scab, because it was there. 

That, plus I just love seeing movies.  I live for the whole shebang:  Buy your tickets, get your buttered popcorn, Diet Coke, and M&M’s, find your seat, pour your M&M’s into your buttered popcorn, watch the trailers, agree which ones you’ll be seeing and which you’ll skip, then settle all down and get cozy when the feature film starts.  That’s the good life! 

Frankly, I’d rather be in a theater seeing a bad movie than to not be seeing a movie.

Something else I’ll admit while I’m at it – we actually laughed a few times during The Love Guru.   One particularly funny scene involved elephants on a hockey rink.  The whole theater (all 12 of us) broke out in Laughter.  The funniest part is the song played during the elephants.

Another positive thing about the movie – Jessica Alba was adorable.  I grow to like her more and more each time I see one of her films.  I just wonder WHY she did this one, you know?

Justin Timberlake was hilarious as a cocky  hockey star and Verne Troyer was dead on perfect as the coach.  One of the funniest parts of the entire movie was a blooper that ran afterwards – it involved Verne Troyer and it was brilliant.

There were also some funny surprise guest appearances.

Now for what held the movie back.  Mike Myers.  Mike Myers was, well, Mike Myers.  Over the top and on the screen far too much.  A little Guru Pitka is actually too much – so a lot of Guru Pitka is unbearable.  I was sick of him by the third scene.

Some over the top characters work (Napoleon Dynamite and Borat, for example) but Guru was little more than annoying most of the time.  For one thing, he looked like the love child of Bo Bice and Mrs. Roper.  When the hockey puck started flying, I kept wishing it’d hit the guru.  I don’t think you’re supposed to feel that way about the main character in a movie.

The idea for this movie was a good one.  But when Mike Myers was writing Guru Pitka’s dialogue and creating the character, someone should have been around and told him, “no…..NO….NO!…and HELL, NO!”  Maybe they could have thrown in a, “Mike, Mike, baby, have you lost your mind?” 

To give you an idea of just how bad the movie was, on the way home, our conversation centered around “movies that were as bad as The Love Guru.”  Surprisingly few!

When this movie comes out on dvd, I wouldn’t necessarily buy it if I were you.  However, if it’s given to you – it is worth a watch.  Just expect to laugh AT the movie more than you laugh WITH the movie.  It’s probably going to go down as one of the most ridiculous movies ever, so I’m glad to have seen history being made. 

It was probably the silliest thing I’ve ever seen.
