Turner Classic Movies is in the throes of “The 31 Days of Oscar” and I love it! Tonight’s featured movie, The Best Years of Our Lives is from 1947 and is a must-see for all movie lovers. This was the first major Hollywood film to deal with the lives of veterans after WWII. In the movie, three WWII veterans return home to small-town America to discover that they and their families have been irreparably changed.

The film stars Myrna Loy, Fredric March, Virginia Mayo, Dana Andrews, Harold Russell, and Teresa Wright.

This classic won a total of 7 Oscars:

Best Actor in a Leading Role – Fredric March

Best Actor in a Supporting Role – Harold Russell

Best Director – William Wyler

Best Film Editing – Daniel Mandell

Best Music, Scoring of a Dramatic or Comedy Picture – Hugo Friedhofer

Best Picture

Best Writing, Screenplay – Robert E. Sherwood

The film also earned other awards including the BAFTA.

See the film’s page on Turner Classic Movies to learn more, and don’t miss this movie!
