in Lucille Ball

The original sponsor for I Love Lucy was Phillip Morris, a tobacco company. References to the company can still be seen in many episodes such as “Lucy Does a TV Commercial” (Episode #30) in which Lucy dresses up as the Phillip Morris icon Johnny the Bellhop.

I recently read something that I’d never read before: Lucy and the rest of the cast weren’t allowed to use the word “lucky” in the show. Phillip Morris didn’t want to make the audience think of their arch cigarette rival, Lucky Strikes!
