Diahann Carroll and Sidney Poitier, Paris Blues
When you’ve been watching movies as long as I have and watch a great (GREAT) number of them, you often come across new (to you) stars who immediately make you fall in love with them – to the point of wondering where in the heck they’ve been all your life!
I’ve always been a HUGE Sidney Poitier fan and it was while working my way through his filmography that I came across an actress who has since launched her way into my top tier favorites.
Until fairly recently – I’d say the past year actually – I only knew the gorgeous and talented Diahann Carroll from her work on television and from her music. I was always a great fan of her as a singer but simply wasn’t overly familiar with her as an actress. However, I’ve recently seen her work in movies (truth be told, I can’t stop watching her films and will soon have her filmography devoured!) and realize just what a phenomenal actress I’ve taken for granted!
Diahann Carroll
One look reminds you that she was easily and without a doubt one of the most stunningly beautiful actresses of all time. Seriously… look at this face! Anyone who makes a list of the all-time most beautiful actresses and doesn’t include Diahann Carroll needs their eyes examined.
I think that her lack of appreciation or notoriety for her wonderful film work is the fact that she is such an ICONIC television star. Kind of hard to step out of your own shadow when you’re an iconic trailblazer, which is exactly what she was with her television series Julia.
Diahann Carroll and Marc Copage, Julia
As much as she lit the screen up in Julia (as well as Dynasty), she may shine even brighter in movies. I know one thing’s for certain.. once you’ve seen a scene with Diahann Carroll and Sidney Poitier, you’ll never think of movie chemistry quite the same again! They had so many sparks between them they nearly drowned out the dialogue.
