Foxy Brown was a series ahead of its time. In my opinion, if it were aired today, it’d be a number one show and would run for infinite seasons. In the Seventies, a series centered around a female character was more out of the norm… and if the character happened to be a black woman… well, it was a real stand out!
Have you ever seen Foxy Brown (Amazon dvd link)? If not, I hope you’ll find it asap and check it out. It is one hella entertaining movie and Pam Grier is phenomenal. It’s almost impossible to find this movie on television (as is the case with a lot of Seventies movies – they aged out of the system for Network television but haven’t reached the age of TCM).
When it comes to all old movies (whether they’re silents, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, or 70s), I collect them on dvd. I do the same with my favorite television series. This way, they’re always right here in my den ready and waiting for me when I’m ready for them.
I plan to give Foxy Brown a re-watch immediately.
