The Wonderful Audrey Hepburn was BOTD in 1929

May 4, 2022 By Joi

Audrey Hepburn, Sabrina

Audrey  Hepburn, Promotional Picture for Sabrina

Beautiful Audrey Hepburn was born on this day in 1929 in Ixelles, Brussels, Belgium.  This beautiful, iconic actress (and household name) is such a wonderful ambassador for our beloved old Hollywood. She was everything that was right about old Hollywood. She was talented, beautiful, stylish, kind, classy (head to toe!) and had a compassionate, loving heart.

Her filmography may not be as long as some but is it ever impressive?!

Some of my personal favorite Audrey Hepburn films are Sabrina, Roman Holiday, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, How to Steal a Million Dollars, My Fair Lady, The Unforgiven, Two for the Road, Funny Face, and Charade.

“I was born with an enormous need for affection, and a terrible need to give it.” ~ Audrey Hepburn

Audrey Hepburn, Exquisite My Fair Lady Promotional Photo

August 22, 2021 By Joi

Audrey Hepburn, My Fair Lady

Audrey Hepburn, My Fair Lady

Audrey Hepburn looks like a beautiful, exquisite princess in the photo above… then again, she looked that way all of  her life – in photos and out! She was simply one in a billion and, boy, did they ever break the mold.

This stunningly beautiful picture of Audrey was for the 1964 musical My Fair Lady. This movie wasn’t just a wonderful film, it produced some of the most amazing promotional pictures of Audrey.

Think the camera loved her? I’m pretty sure it was obsessed with her!

You can find My Fair Lady on dvd (Amazon link) or watch on Prime Video. Few things I can think of that compare with spending a few hours with the always delightful and deliriously de-loverly Audrey Hepburn!

Audrey Hepburn, Breakfast at Tiffany’s (There’s Iconic, then There’s ICONIC)

November 12, 2020 By Joi

Audrey Hepburn, Breakfast at Tiffany'sAudrey Hepburn, Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Audrey Hepburn’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s isn’t just a highly entertaining film, it’s absolutely iconic. It may be the Audrey fanatic in me speaking, but I don’t (for a minute) think the film would be as iconic and legendary as it is with any other actress in the role.

It and Audrey were a match made in cinematic Heaven.

The 1961 film was directed by Blake Edwards and co-starred George Peppard, Patricia Neal, and Buddy Ebsen.

You can find Breakfast at Tiffany’s on DVD (Amazon link to the dvd) or watch on Prime Video.

Audrey Hepburn, Behind the Scenes of Sabrina

I’m sure I’ve mentioned it on Hollywood Yesterday before, but Behind the Scenes photos are something of an obsession of mine. I can’t put my finger on it, but there is just something about them that sends me over the moon and all around the galaxy.

(Continued below Audrey Hepburn’s loveliness)

Audrey has long been one of my favorite actresses, while Humphrey Bogart has long been one of my favorite actors. How am I NOT going to be head over heels in love with a movie they made together?!?

Beautiful Book of Audrey Hepburn Photographs

September 29, 2014 By Joi

Bob Willoughby: Audrey Hepburn, Photographs 1953-1966 isn’t just any book of Audrey Hepburn photographs.  This collection of Audrey Hepburn pictures were taken by the very distinguished Hollywood photographer, Bob Willoughby.

If that doesn’t make it extra special, nothing will.

During his legendary career, Willoughby photographed Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor and Jane Fonda, but he never made a secret which leading lady was his favorite subject: Audrey Hepburn. Willoughby was called in to shoot the new starlet one morning shortly after she arrived in Hollywood in 1953. It was a humdrum commission for the portraitist often credited with having perfected the photojournalistic movie still, but when he met the Belgian-born beauty, Willoughby was enraptured. “She took my hand like… well a princess, and dazzled me with that smile that God designed to melt mortal men’s hearts,” he recalled.

From Amazon: As Hepburn’s career soared following her Oscar-winning US debut in Roman Holiday, Willoughby became a trusted friend, framing her working and home life. His historic, perfectionist, tender photographs seek out the many facets of Hepburn’s beauty and elegance, as she progresses from her debut to her career high of My Fair Lady in 1963. Willoughby’s studies, showing her on set, preparing for a scene, interacting with actors and directors, and returning to her private life, comprise one of photography’s great platonic love affairs and an unrivaled record of one of the 20th century’s touchstone beauties.

About the Author

Bob Willoughby (1927-2009) took his first photo at the age of twelve. By 1954 his exhibitions of photographs of jazz musicians and dancers led to a contract with Globe Photos, followed by work at Harper’s Bazaar. After shooting Judy Garland during the filming of A Star is Born he became the first “unit photographer”—hired specifically by movie studios to take on-set promotional “stills”. The author of numerous books on photography, he lived his last years in France.

Welcome to Hollywood Yesterday!

Ann Sheridan, It All Came True

Ann Sheridan
My name is Joi (“Joy”) and I created Hollywood Yesterday as my personal tribute to Old Hollywood. It’s my effort to help keep the stars from Old Hollywood, Classic Television, and Old Radio Shows alive and shining forever. Old Hollywood was positively magical and I see no reason for the magic to ever die.

Be warned, I am (by nature) overtly positive, I never take anything too seriously, I say extraordinary so often you’d think I invented the word, and I overuse exclamation points to distraction. I’m perpetually over-caffeinated.. we’ll blame that.

Read more about Hollywood Yesterday (and see my personal favorites) here!

Old Hollywood Book Reviews

Ann Dvorak: Hollywood's Forgotten Rebel by Christina Rice

I love reading old Hollywood biographies and memoirs as much as I love watching classic movies, and that’s truly saying something!

Pictures of the Day

Maureen O'Hara, The Parent Trap

Maureen O’Hara

The Old Hollywood & Classic TV Pictures of the Day are published as regularly as possible. If I miss a few days, please just know that the husband, daughters, sons-in-law, grandbabies, and/or my cats were demanding my attention. I’ll be honest, nothing comes before any of them! Not even Maureen O’Hara or Henry Fonda.

Priorities, y’all.

Olivia de Havilland

Olivia de Havilland, The Adventures of Robin Hood

My main goal with Hollywood Yesterday is to keep the names, faces, and films of the stars that mean so much to me shining brightly. When I’m guilty of focusing more time on my personal favorites (such as Olivia de Havilland) than other stars, I hope you’ll forgive me. I am, by all indications, very human!

Also, please know that I try to keep my posts (except for book reviews) short and to the point, so you can enjoy the pictures, grab the information, and get back to your life. I don’t appreciate anything that’s overly wordy, so I don’t want to do that to others. For better or worse, I write as I talk, so if you ever feel like you’re reading the words of someone who’s a cross between Lucy Ricardo, Daisy Duck, and a Jerry Lewis character, that’s just because you are!

Wait. What did I just admit to??

Barbara Stanwyck Quotes

Another personal absolute favorite of mine is Barbara Stanwyck. Not only was she beautiful and outrageously talented, she was exceptionally bright, charismatic, and colorful. This growing collection of Barbara Stanwyck Quotes will give you an idea of just how colorful she was!

Old Hollywood Movies

Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire Top Hat Cheek to Cheek

There’s nothing quite like watching a movie from the Golden Age of Hollywood. Whether it’s a Musical, Western, Comedy, Romance, Film Noir, or Drama – if it’s on, I’m not too far away… with popcorn and raspberry tea in hand and a couple of cats nearby.

Below are a few Old Hollywood movie reviews I’ve done on the blog. There are, as you’d imagine, a lot more to come. – Joi (“Joy”)
