When an actor or actress “fits” a role so perfectly it seems to have been designed for them and ONLY them, movie MAGIC happens. Such is the case with Claudette Colbert and Empress Poppaea in The Sign of the Cross (1932, directed by the legend, himself, Cecil B. DeMille). Then again, this can be said of quite a few of Claudette Colbert roles can’t it?
Seems a great deal of the MAGIC was with the actress more than the roles. Why doesn’t this surprise me??!
You can buy The Sign of the Cross on dvd (Amazon link). Unfortunately it isn’t on Prime Video (yet!).
