The Cincinnati Kid Lobby Cards: Steve McQueen, Ann-Margret and Karl Malden

The Cincinnati Kid, Ann-Margret and Steve McQueen

Ann-Margret and Steve McQueen

The Cincinnati Kid (1965) was directed by Norman Jewison and has a ridiculously STRONG cast… Steve McQueen, Ann-Margret, Karl Malden, Tuesday Weld, Edward G. Robinson, Joan Blondell, Rip Torn, Cab Calloway.. I mean, really? What a lineup of stars!

I like this one a lot. It’s one of those movies that, as you’re caught up in the moment, you wonder why it isn’t better-known.

You can find The Cincinnati Kid on dvd (Amazon link) or watch the movie on Prime Video. Either way, this cast is waiting to blow you away.

Happy Memorial Day!

May 31, 2021 By Joi

Viva Las Vegas, Ann-Margret and Elvis PresleyAnn-Margret and Elvis, Viva Las Vegas

When it was time to choose a picture of the day for Memorial Day, this one came to my mind immediately. To wonderful American stars – one born here, who also served his country (Elvis) and one who chose to call America home (Ann-Margret). I think it’s a great honor when people who could live almost anywhere in the world choose the United States of America to be their home. It honors and flatters every one of us and our beautiful country.

It also shows remarkable taste on their part, if I may be allowed to say so!

Happy Memorial Day to all those who have served, as well as to their families who often sacrifice more than anyone should ever be asked to sacrifice. Have a beautiful and peaceful day and please remember all of those who gave so much for the freedoms and life we tend to take for granted.

Wishing a VERY Happy Birthday to Ann-Margret!

Ann-Margret, The Pleasure Seekers Promo Pic

Ann-Margret

People who know me often tease me (very good naturedly, of course!) about my beloved redheads. Four of the actresses I’m most associated with (because I love them so much) are:

  • Maureen O’Hara
  • Lucille Ball
  • Ann-Margret
  • Rita Hayworth

Notice something in common?? Absolutely…. in addition to being beautiful, talented, and loaded with charisma, they’re redheads.

Ironically four of my very favorites having hair as colorful as their personalities and today is one of their birthdays. I’d love to wish a very, very happy birthday to the wonderful Ann-Margret!

Ann-Margret, Pamela Tiffin, and Carol Lynley in The Pleasure Seekers

Ann-Margret, Pamela Tiffin, and Carol Lynley in The Pleasure Seekers

Ann-Margret, Pamela Tiffin, and Carol Lynley

The Pleasure Seekers is a fun 1964 film (directed by Jean Negulesco) that has a lot of the charisma and charm of its star Ann-Margret.

For whatever reasons, the film wasn’t a hit when it was released – whether there were simply too many other movies at the time or the public was looking for something different at the time… it simply didn’t do as well as it should have.

In addition to Ann-Margret, the film stars Carol Lynley, Pamela Tiffin, Anthony Franciosa, Gene Tierney, and André Lawrence.

You can find The Pleasure Seekers (link to the dvd) on Amazon. I don’t believe it’s available on Prime Video – I’ll let you know if I ever see it listed!

Ann-Margret, Pamela Tiffin, and Anthony Franciosa: The Pleasure Seekers

Ann-Margret, Pamela Tiffin, and Anthony Franciosa in The Pleasure Seekers

Ann-Margret, Pamela Tiffin, and Anthony Franciosa

I’ve always loved Ann-Margret and have considered her to be one of my favorite actresses since I was old enough to watch movies. Love her to distraction. I’ve recently become more familiar with Pamela Tiffin and wonder what took me so long to watch her films! She’s wonderful and I’ve become a huge fan.

I think my problem (if you want to really call it a problem) is the same one a lot of other old Hollywood fanatics run into – we watch so many movies from the Silent Era, the Thirties, and the Forties, that we sometimes neglect the Fifties, Sixties, and Seventies – especially the Sixties. Yet, truth be told, there’s a lot of GOLD in 60’s Hollywood!

I’ve been trying to make up for lost time by watching more movies and television shows from this particular decade and I am totally in love. The fashion, the cars, the interior decorations and design, the hairstyles, the music, the dialogue… like I said, pure GOLD.

The Pleasure Seekers (1964) is a fun, very colorful film and one I think you’ll really enjoy. The film stars Ann-Margret, Carol Lynley, Pamela Tiffin, Anthony Franciosa, and Gene Tierney (in her last film).

The Pleasure Seekers is available on Amazon (link to the dvd).

Ann-Margret, State Fair Wardrobe Test (Safe to Say She Passed!)

Ann-Margret State Fair Wardrobe Test

Today’s pictures of the day are just what a Friday calls for… Ann-Margret! These are photos from her wardrobe test for State Fair (1962, directed by José Ferrer). The beautiful, talented, and off-the-charts charismatic actress is so wonderful in everything she ever did – State Fair, included.

Ann-Margret’s State Fair (1962) can be difficult to find on dvd, so if you ever see a copy, buy it! I’ve been trying for a while now to add it to my Ann-Margret collection and can’t find it anywhere.

Buying the dvd is really the only way to go because the movie is almost never shown on television.

Ann-Margret, State Fair: Sometimes the Picture of the Day Calls for Charisma with a Capital C

June 4, 2020 By Joi

Ann-Margret, State Fair

Ann-Margret, State Fair

One of my favorite actresses is basically a super-charged bolt of charisma and personality…. the beautiful and talented Ann-Margret is one of the most charismatic actresses of all time and I love it.

Each and every role she ever graced benefited from her high-volt personality – as did each film she appeared it. She simply “brought the magic,” and there’s little doubt in my mind that she has always had (and still has) the same effect on a room when she enters it.

If you aren’t familiar with this talented actress and singer’s filmography, I hope you’ll start working your way through her films. You will not regret a single minute.

The picture, above, is from the 1945 film State Fair (link to the dvd on Amazon… or you can watch it on Prime).

Ann-Margret…. one of my favorite actresses and entertainers.

Elvis Presley….. one of my favorite actresses and singers.

Viva Las Vegas…. how could it NOT be one of my favorite movies. As in EVER?!

I am in love with this 1964 movie more than I could ever say. It epitomizes the Sixties in many ways and makes visiting the colorful and fun era unspeakably entertaining.

Ann-Margret, Tommy

Ann-Margret gave a memorable performance in the 1975 film Tommy. While it isn’t one of her more popular films (or best-loved among those of us who are her fans), she was fantastic and (as she always does) gave it her all and then some.

Love the movie or hate the movie, there’s no denying one fact – these promotional pictures of Ann-Margret make pretty amazing pictures of the day!

Happy Birthday, Ann-Margret!

April 28, 2020 By Joi

Ann-Margret, The Pleasure Seekers Promo Pic

When it’s one of your absolute favorite actress’ birthdays, it takes the mystery right out of who the picture of the day will be! The only choice is… which gorgeous picture of the star will you use?

Today is beautiful Ann-Margret’s birthday and I hope it is as wonderful as she is.

She has been one of my top favorites for nearly as long as I’ve been alive.

Beautiful, charismatic, multi-talented, and a very, very good person. No wonder she’s such a favorite.

Happiest of birthdays to an ABSOLUTE favorite star!

Welcome to Hollywood Yesterday!

Ann Sheridan, It All Came True

Ann Sheridan
My name is Joi (“Joy”) and I created Hollywood Yesterday as my personal tribute to Old Hollywood. It’s my effort to help keep the stars from Old Hollywood, Classic Television, and Old Radio Shows alive and shining forever. Old Hollywood was positively magical and I see no reason for the magic to ever die.

Be warned, I am (by nature) overtly positive, I never take anything too seriously, I say extraordinary so often you’d think I invented the word, and I overuse exclamation points to distraction. I’m perpetually over-caffeinated.. we’ll blame that.

Pictures of the Day

Maureen O'Hara, The Parent Trap

Maureen O’Hara

The Old Hollywood & Classic TV Pictures of the Day are published as regularly as possible. If I miss a few days, please just know that the husband, daughters, sons-in-law, grandbabies, and/or my cats were demanding my attention. I’ll be honest, nothing comes before any of them! Not even Maureen O’Hara or Henry Fonda.

Priorities, y’all.

Olivia de Havilland

Olivia de Havilland, The Adventures of Robin Hood

My main goal with Hollywood Yesterday is to keep the names, faces, and films of the stars that mean so much to me shining brightly. When I’m guilty of focusing more time on my personal favorites (such as Olivia de Havilland) than other stars, I hope you’ll forgive me. I am, by all indications, very human!

Also, please know that I try to keep my posts (except for book reviews) short and to the point, so you can enjoy the pictures, grab the information, and get back to your life. I don’t appreciate anything that’s overly wordy, so I don’t want to do that to others. For better or worse, I write as I talk, so if you ever feel like you’re reading the words of someone who’s a cross between Lucy Ricardo, Daisy Duck, and a Jerry Lewis character, that’s just because you are!

Wait. What did I just admit to??

Barbara Stanwyck Quotes

Another personal absolute favorite of mine is Barbara Stanwyck. Not only was she beautiful and outrageously talented, she was exceptionally bright, charismatic, and colorful. This growing collection of Barbara Stanwyck Quotes will give you an idea of just how colorful she was!

Old Hollywood Movies

There’s nothing quite like watching a movie from the Golden Age of Hollywood. Whether it’s a Musical, Western, Comedy, Romance, Film Noir, or Drama – if it’s on, I’m not too far away… with popcorn and raspberry tea in hand and a couple of cats nearby.

Below are a few Old Hollywood movie reviews I’ve done on the blog. There are, as you’d imagine, a lot more to come. – Joi (“Joy”)
